Before you start your club
You should have already gone through our checklist for starting an after school Design Club.
Some things to note:
- We recommend having up to 10 children in a group
- Two adults should deliver a session. Ideally a mentor plus a member of staff at the school, but if a friend or colleague wants to help, that’s also fine
- Sessions are delivered in a classroom at the school
Getting a register
Ensure the school gives you a confirmed list of the children who have signed up to your club. This will be the register for you to check at the start of each session.
Planning for a term
A term typically lasts 10-12 weeks. It can vary, depending on the school or the borough.
Our session plans run for 10 weeks. Session plans are flexible, so if a school wants the club to last for 11 or 12 weeks, you can adapt things to suit.
The 10 week overview
The 10 week overview summarises the projects the group will work on. It also links to session plans and presentations. To see the 10 week overview, see our Resource Hub. Register to get access.
Design Club projects
Projects are completed at three levels:
At the moment, our projects are focused on mobile app design. We plan to develop projects in other domains, such as poster, product, service and space design.
